West Pokot, Kanyerus

The site is an area of 10 hectares (Ha), intended to be a demonstration project to start with, and if proven to be successful and approved by the local community, can be extended to a 250 Ha model project, and rolled out in other areas with similar problems. Features of this site are hills covered by indigenous trees and shrubs, crossed by dirt roads and walking paths. Local communities have livestock of free roaming cattle, goats and chickens.

Water sources are rainfall and streams in the vicinity, possibly natural wells. The state of degradation is a consequence brought by loss of ground cover due to overgrazing and the formation of erosion gullies diverting soil and rainwater during the rainy season resulting in loss of arable land, starvation of cattle, loss of income and loss of biodiversity and wildlife.
